This package provides guests plenty of time to explore this highly protected region of the Great Barrier Reef and the gorgeous Lady Elliot Island island at their own pace. The island’s lagoons and reefs are home to over 1,200 different marine species, with divers and snorkellers able to enjoy a wonderful mix of hard and soft corals; including Braching, Boulder, Plate and Mushroom hard corals and Gorgonian Fan, Organ Pipe and Pink Soft corals.
The island is world renowned for its resident population of 40 Manta Rays and year round encounters with turtles, dolphins and tropical fish. Seabird and turtle nesting are highlights in the warmer months, as is the Humpback Whale migration from June to October.

The small and unpretentious 41 room Eco Resort on Lady Elliot Island strives to provide guests with a genuine eco-tourism experience, through natural encounters both above and below the water and by the delivery of engaging and educational activities. Guests will be educated on how to enjoy the Island’s fragile ecosystem with minimal impact with island guides delighted to share their knowledge about renewable technologies as the Island continues to introduce and expand sustainable eco initiatives.
The goal of the team is to ensure guests take home more than just photos and memories, but also join the fight for conservation and sustainable management of the environment and natural resources, in particular the Great Barrier Reef. Experience the wonders of the underwater world, up close and personal with this scuba adventure. Guests will learn the important rules and skills of scuba diving under the guidance of professional Dive Instructors in the safety of the Manta Pool, before heading out for an afternoon of exhilarating diving! (Additional costs apply)
Visitors will be enlightened by expert marine guide as they drift over the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef. This informative trip will introduce guests to the coral reef animals and possibly our majestic manta rays, turtles, and whales (in season), all from the glass bottom boat, before having the opportunity to take the plunge into the incredible underwater environment for a snorkel. Reef walking shoes are required for boarding.
For confident snorkelers who would like to spend longer in the water and head further afield around our Island, the Snorkel Safari tour is ideal.
During the low tide, travellers are able to walk out into the Lagoon along the sandy channels and seek out the lagoon’s interesting inhabitants including coral, fish, clams, sea cucumbers and sea stars. Meet at the Education Centre to join your guide and discover how to interact with these creatures in a responsible manner. Reefs shoes and a balance stick are available from the Reef Education Centre.
Discover Lady Elliot Island by night and learn about its interesting past, while visiting the island grave yard and lighthouse, before heading to the beach to spot the scurrying hermit crabs. Guests will be able to keep an eye out for resident Green Tree Frogs and shearwaters, before heading back towards the airstrip and stop to star gaze.
A huge variety of seabirds, land birds and migratory waders may be seen across picturesque Lady Elliot Island. The Crested Terns lay their eggs in the open, while Bridled Terns and Silver Gulls prefer to nest under shrubs. Black-Naped Terns are also common on the island along with the spectacular Brown Boobies, Lesser Frigate Birds and a small colony of Red-Tailed Tropic Birds. On this 45min walk guests will find out why Lady Elliot Island is an ornithologist's delight.
Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort offers a range of comfortable accommodation options, with each suite, unit and cabin designed to minimise impact on the island while enriching guest’s experience of the seasonal wildlife. The Resort was established in 1984 when a series of prefabricated buildings were brought to the island and these buildings are still in use today. In keeping with the natural, eco-friendly lifestyle there are no telephones, television or radios and all rooms are fan-cooled. The rooms are simple but comfortable and have everything you need for a nice and relaxing holiday.
Bedroom Island Suites (5)
Offering absolute beach frontage, the spacious two-bedroom suites accommodate up to four people and features a separate air-conditioned lounge room and private bathroom.
Reef and Garden Units (24)
Arranged in blocks of three, the Reef and Garden Units are ideal for couples or families, offering either queen beds or a combination of a queen and bunk-style beds. Each unit is slightly elevated, featuring polished timber floors, ensuite bathrooms and a balcony with to make the most of the ocean or garden views.
Eco Cabins (12)
Situated within 20 to 30 metres of Sunrise Beach, the Eco Cabins are roomy, permanent safari-style tents with polished wooden floors and shared bathroom facilities. Each hut accommodates four people with two sets of single bunk beds.
Full buffet dinner and breakfast are included in the overnight tariff and is served in the Beachfront Dining Room. For lunch, there is a choice of a buffet lunch in the Beachfront Dining Room or a range of light meals or snacks available from the Beachfront Cafe.
