Covering the breathtaking landscapes of the Red Centre, guests will wander quietly through Spinifex and Mulga filled country, led by guides to search for small bushbirds, raptors, parrots, termites, Mulga Ants and Honey Ants; that may be small yet still play a huge role in the local ecosystem. A fascinating insight into how the local Anangu people lived in such a hot desert climate and survived on a variety of bush seeds and animals will be provided by the expert guides.
Through grinding native seeds and tasting a selection of bush foods, both traditional and contemporary, guests will build a connection with these ancient lands. At the conclusion of the day, guests will enjoy a meet and greet with some local reptiles such as the Blue-tongue Lizard or the Bearded Dragon and learn about these amazing outback creatures that roam our desert landscape and the importance of conserving them.
Upon leaving Ayers Rock Resort, this tour will travel into local spinifex and mulga filled country where guests have the opportunity to wander quietly with the guide to search for native wildlife such as small birds such as Zebra Finches, Budgerigars, Red-capped Robins, Splendid Fairy-wrens, Yellow-throated Miners, Crested Bellbirds and White-plumed Honeyeaters. Termites, Mulga Ants and Honey Ants are also common and guests will learn about their important role in the desert ecosystem.
Whilst looking for wildlife, visitors will learn about the various types of bush foods favoured by the Anangu (Local Aboriginal people) of central Australia, how they are found and what they are used for. Guests will sample different bush foods, both ancient and contemporary, and find out about their seasonal importance to the diet of Aboriginal people.
After sampling native bush foods, guests will have the opportunity to meet the local reptiles and appreciate the extraordinary fauna of Central Australia. Your guide will then return you to your accommodation at Ayers Rock Resort.
