SEIT Patji (A True Aboriginal Experience)

Duration: 7 hours approximately

Type: Groups, Private Charter, Shared.

Departs: Tuesdays, Thursday & Saturdays

Interests: Birds, Land Mammals & Marsupials, Reptiles & Amphibians.

This adventure offers guests the privilege to accompany the traditional Uluru family to their homelands called Patji and spend time learning about the oldest living culture in the world. A truly unique and exclusive touring experience, Patji is located just outside of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park south of Uluru.

Exploring this extraordinary environment by 4WD with your professional SEIT guide and Aboriginal host, guests will hear stories about life and family, long before tourism started in the region. This outback environment is home to birds of all sizes, from tiny but striking Zebra Finches, Wedge-tailed Eagles and even Bush Turkeys. Hear how these and other animals were crucial to survival in this desert climate where Thorny Devils and Sand Goannas roam.

Guests will enjoy an unforgettable sunset from a private Patji sand dune with expansive views over the iconic Uluru and Kata Tjuta, and as the desert darkens, keep an eye out for Red Kangaroos, Camels and Dingos that prefer the cool of the evening.

About SEIT Outback Australia: This award winning small group tour company is based in the Red Centre of Australia, offering visitors unique, educational and immersive experiences in and around Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Kathy and Brett Graham commenced the business in 2009, to realise their vision of sharing their passion for the environment, wildlife and culture of this spiritually and environmentally significant desert region, borne out of a combined 20 years' experience touring in the centre.

Tour day-by-day

  • SEIT Patji

Led by a SEIT professional guide, this small group tour commences at Ayers Rock Resort in an air-conditioned modern 4WD Mercedes Benz Sprinter. Travelling through Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park with the impressive Uluru close by, guests will meet their Aboriginal host at the Cultural Centre. Leaving Uluru behind, the group will head south outside the National Park onto Aboriginal land known as Patji and the off-road adventure with the Aboriginal host begins.

Exploring this extraordinary environment, guests will hear stories of how life was for the local Anangu (Aboriginal) people and how it is today. Discover previously unexplored territory, home to birds of all sizes, from tiny but striking Zebra Finches, Wedge-tailed Eagles, Whistling Kites, Black-breasted Buzzards, Brown Falcons and even Bush Turkeys. Guests will learn how these and other animals were crucial to survival in this desert climate where Thorny Devils, Sand Goannas and Camels roam. In the late afternoon via remote bush tracks through the desert to a private Patji sand dune, guests will connect with the expansive desert landscapes as the sunsets over Uluru and Kata Tjuta with drinks and light snacks.

After sunset you will farewell your Aboriginal host and your guide will return you to your hotel at Ayers Rock Resort.

"This tour was brilliant from beginning to end. We feel privileged to spend the day with elder Sammy Wilson on Anungu Country, learning and laughing in this stunning landscape. Valerie was an incredibly respectful tour guide and facilitated a wonderful experience for our whole family. Thank you so much for a day we will never forget." - Claire

"I was lucky enough to be in Uluru last week and did a few tours with SEIT, all amazing, but Patji Tour truly stuck out, an excellent unique Aboriginal experience lead by Sammy Uluru and the SEIT guide, allowing us onto Aboriginal lands and listening to Sammy's family stories of Uluru and being shown how to find bush foods, which we actually got to try, and then sit around having a cup of tea and cake with Sammy and learning about his family. Topping it off with an amazing sunset with non alcoholic drinks and nibbles in a private location overlooking Uluru. A definite must do experience for anyone wanting a true Indigenous tour. Thanks SEIT, once again you've excelled." - Pat, Melbourne
